British pie week. (4th – 10th March)
It is one of the best weeks of the year, and we do love a pie now and again here in the Pointer office! Plus, we all know how amazing Cottage Pie is, right? Well, why not treat our furry friends to a taste of the pie action this week? Our easy pup-friendly recipe is a winner, and your dog will thank you for it! Just a few simple ingredients, a bit of prep, and voila – a tasty homemade treat for your four-legged pals. Trust us, they’ll be licking their bowls clean! All you need is some lean ground beef, mixed veggies (like carrots, peas, and green beans), and mashed sweet potatoes. Just cook up the beef, mix in the veggies, top it with the mashed sweet potatoes, and pop it in the oven for a bit. Voila, a delicious and dog-friendly pie that will have your pups drooling in no time.
INGREDIENTS:
455g lean ground mince beef
120g carrots, chopped or pureed
120g sweet peas, chopped or pureed
120g plain breadcrumbs
1 teaspoon parsley
1 egg
320g cooked mashed potato
120g cheese, grated or crumbled
Paper cupcake liners
HOW TO MAKE:
In a large bowl, mix the beef, carrots, sweet peas, breadcrumbs, parsley and egg until thoroughly mixed.
Divide the mixture into 12 paper liners using a muffin tin, use your fingers to pat the mixture into a cup.
Spoon the mashed potatoes into the cup.
Bake for 15 – 20 minutes at 190°c or 375°f.
Cool completely on a cooling rack before feeding to your four-legged friend.
Once completely cooled, the pies can be frozen in an airtight bag for several months. To serve just war in the microwave for 20 seconds. Here’s to celebrating British Pie Week with your dogs, enjoy!
