Every good pup deserves a special treat on their big day and what better way to celebrate your beloved dog’s birthday or gotcha day than with a dog-friendly birthday dinner party?
Whether you’re celebrating their first year with you or a milestone birthday, throwing a birthday dinner party will make it a celebration to remember for both humans and pets alike.
A Perfect Dog-Friendly Birthday Menu
Remember, not all of our own foods are safe for our four-legged friends, so make sure the foods you choose are both tasty and safe for dogs to eat.
Skip human ingredients such as onions, garlic, chocolate, or artificial sweeteners like xylitol. Instead, opt for nutritious, dog-approved ingredients and treats to make sure it’s a night to remember for all the right reasons.
If you want to add some extra special sweet treats to your menu try some delicious frozen banana and peanut butter bites which you can make by mashing a ripe banana with a tablespoon of xylitol-free peanut butter such as this one from Bugalugs and ¼ cup of plain Greek yogurt before pouring into silicone moulds and freezing.
Or if you prefer, you could make something savoury such as a doggy meatloaf cake by mixing 1lb of ground turkey or beef with 1 egg, ½ cup of oats, ½ cup of grated carrots and ¼ cup of finely chopped spinach. Before shaping into a cake tin and baking at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes.
Once cooled, you could then frost with mashed sweet potatoes and garnish with some of our Pointer Puppy Love Dog Treats.

Creating The Set Up
Whether you are hosting your dinner party in your dining room or another room in the house, make sure your home looks the part. Add some tasteful dog inspired decorations such as this Puppy Party Happy Birthday Banner or even some dog themed napkins such as these corgis party napkins. Remember to think simple and safe and avoid anything your doggy guests could chew or choke on.
As it’s your pup’s special day, why not go the extra mile and either serve dinner in their favourite bowl or buy them a new one just for the occasion such as a personalised bowl like this one from Emma Bridgewater?
Or you could even treat them to an adjustable dining table, which is the perfect excuse to take some cute photos.
Add a party hat or birthday bandana such as the Ancol Birthday Pup Bandana & Hat by Lords and Labradors to make your photos even more adorable. Just remember to make sure your dog is happy to wear accessories.
Inviting The Whole Pack
If your four-legged bestie is the cream of your social circle, then invite over their favourite puppy pals and their human owners, of course as their plus one.
But remember, if you are opening your home to additional four-legged guests, make sure there is a space for them to play and chill out during the dinner party.
Bearing Gifts
A dog-friendly birthday or gotcha dinner isn’t complete without a surprise present or two, so gift your furry friend a new toy, treats, a chew or even an interactive snuffle mat to keep them entertained long after they’ve licked their dinner bowl clean.

It’s important to note that you should check with your vet before feeding your pooch anything that they’re not familiar with. Dogs with special dietary needs, such as diabetes, should refrain from eating anything outside of what has been recommended to you by a professional.
