How To Create An ‘At Home’ Buffet For Your Dog
A doggy buffet is a fun and exciting way to spoil your furry friend, whether it’s celebrating their birthday or gotcha day, or because you just want to shower them with some attention for an hour or two (they deserve it!).
At Pointer, we know a thing or two about happy pups! So, here are some top tips from our team on how to create a paw-some buffet for your pooch in the comfort of your own home.
Deciding A Theme
When preparing your doggy buffet, deciding on a theme can help you choose which foods to include. For example, for birthdays you could add a few tasty Peanut Butter Flavoured Paws or for more seasonal celebrations such as Easter or Christmas you could add a handful of Grain Free Stars with Turkey.
Regardless of the style of your ‘paw-ty’, make sure you choose foods that are dog-safe and align with your pet’s dietary needs based on their breed and any pre-existing health conditions.
Dog-Friendly Buffet Foods
Now you have your theme – lets get down to the fun stuff. Picking the food. Below are some of our suggestions as to what to include in your dog-friendly buffet, but you can also put it together with the foods that get your furry friend drooling!
- Tinned fish such as sardines, tuna, or salmon can be offered as an occasional treat but avoid fish bones and choose fish that have been canned in water rather than oils or brine.
- Cooked chicken, turkey or lamb can be great additions to a buffet, as they are great sources of protein. However, make sure any meat is cooked through thoroughly just like you would for humans and that all bones and skin have been removed as they can pose choking hazards.
- Fruits and vegetables can be another excellent addition to your buffet. Choose dog-friendly fruit and veg such as apples, strawberries and oranges, which are a great source of vitamins and fibre. Remove any apple seeds before serving, as they can be toxic when chewed. Peas, sweet potatoes, beans, and carrots are also safe and delicious additions to any doggy meal, as they are rich in vitamins, minerals, and fibre.
- Dog treats – finally, don’t forget about feeding your pooch a varied diet that includes the treats you know they love. We may be biased, but with everything from Big Bite Bones to Mini Milky Paws, we have a wide range at goodies at Pointer perfect for furry friends of ALL shapes and sizes. It’s all about the presentation
When presenting your carefully chosen foods, make things interesting for your pup by separating the different foods into small bowls and making cute labels for them.
You could also hide parts of your buffet in interactive toys as well, such as rubber toys with hollow centres like the KONG Classic toy, ‘licky mats’ which come in a range of shapes and sizes such as the LickiMat® Classic Buddy or even a snuffle matt to encourage your pet to forage for their food. These toys will help make the meal more of a reward and add some fun to your buffet.
With some thoughtful planning and a splash of creativity, you can turn your buffet into a paw-some celebration of your furry friend.
